Southern Style – piano – YouTube

Southern Style – piano – YouTube.

In The Vision of a Mother’s Heart, there is a chapter where Mama plays music at the Church “singing” and when they arrive, someone is already playing the piano. Isabel comments, “She makes the piano sing!” This is the style of Gospel music that would have been played. (This particular song, Looking For A City probably hadn’t been written yet.) Enjoy. This fellow is wonderful.  I would definitely consider this “making a joyful noise unto the Lord!

Peace

"Though billows may sweep ore the wild, stormy deep; in Jesus I am safe evermore."

Peace Like A River

By Katherine Purdy

Peace: to be safe from harm in your spirit, mind and body. Tranquility. A pause in unrest. Cessation of war and violence. People seek it. Protesters demand it. Soldiers fight to achieve it. Politicians promise it and yet it is beyond man’s ability to grasp it.

There is only one source of peace. It was bought at a high price by the creator of the universe. The Prince of Peace, The Lord Jesus Christ.

It floods over our soul calming the spirit. Relieving the body of anxiety and giving rest. It cannot be diminished by outside pressures just as a river cannot stop flowing because of a piece of driftwood or a boat rowing in it.

A river can be dammed up, redirected to provide energy for electricity, water to be purified for consumption, it’s a home to fish and a source of life sustaining water for other critters. Transportation for boats and a source of food for fishermen.

It is always flowing. Ever constant. Sustaining. And at times a picture of tranquility.

Peace, like a river, can provide security and contentment to those around us.

Encouraging others to come to the true source to find it. The world cannot fathom

the peace that comes from having a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Just like joy, peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. The closer we are to the Lord, the more we read and obey His Word, the more we realize the benefit of this wonderful gift that remains constant.

I love the story of Jesus resting in the boat in the Sea of Galilee when a terrible storm came up and the disciples were beside themselves with worry, thinking they were about to die. They had just witnessed the Lord Jesus Christ perform an impossible miracle of feeding 5000 men with women and children with just five loaves and two small fishes. Everyone had eaten until they were full and there were 12 baskets full left over. They had seen Him heal the sick and other miracles. And yet, only a short time later, His disciples forgot His wondrous power and panicked.

“Master, careth not that that we perish? And He arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, ‘Peace be still.’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. And He said unto them, ‘why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly and said to another, what manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”( Mark 4:37-42)

Only He can calm the storm of your soul and give you peace.

I have peace like a river in my soul. Do you?

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Catalog Shopping

Isabel came from a poor family which was rich with love.

Mama and Papa didn’t have a lot of money to spend on the latest fashions with seven children to feed and clothe. However, Mama was an excellent seamstress and made most of the children’s clothes – something that became an embarrassment for Isabel. It wasn’t Mama’s sewing but the fabric her clothes were made from.

An alternative for many families was to order from the catalog. Every family had one or two. Purchases could be made for anything from toys to houses! Of course, it took money so the children drooled over the pages, wishing for this dress or that train set.

For her tenth birthday, Isabel had a wonderful surprise. A trip to town the following day with Mama. No one else – just mother and daughter on a shopping trip which also included a trip to the Soda shop!

Styles have changed but some things never change – spending alone time with Mama something children long for today.  We still receive catalogs too! However, to know a mother’s love – Priceless!

Style of clothing Isabel and her sisters Maggie and Sylvia may have worn.

Overshadowed By His Mighty Love

“I’m overshadowed by His mighty love. Love eternal, changeless, pure.

Overshadowed by His mighty love, rest is mine; serene, secure.

He died to ransom me from sin; He lives to keep me day by day.

I’m overshadowed by His mighty love; Love that brightens all my way.

Skippy’s Treasure

“May I have this? I love it!”

"What do you mean it's going to the cleaners?"

"But I love it, it's perfect!""What about Ruby? It's not her color!""I promise not to get it dirty or claw on it - if you let me keep it.""Okay, you can get it cleaned. May I have it when it you bring it back?"

"Please? I love you!"

"If I can't have that nice quilted bedspread, I guess I will have to knit one!""Mom! How does this knitting thing work?"

Sometimes we are like Skippy. We ask the Lord for something that we want, not listening to His still, quiet voice telling us to wait – that He has something better.
“Lay not for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for your treasures in heaven, where neither moth not rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV)
