Today our post was written by my dear friend from Nevrdun News.
It could not be put off any longer. The bathroom sink was draining slower and slower. If I didn’t do something about it soon it wouldn’t be draining at all. Last night I cleaned out the ooey, gooey, slimy, grimy, smelly glob that was the root of the problem. Ugh. It was disgusting.
While removing that stomach flipping glob of goop I was reminded of how similar it is to sin in my life. I just kinda let things build up, little by little, not really paying that much attention, until I end up with a big grimy slimy glob emitting horrendous odors restricting the flow of the Living Water.
Please forgive me, Lord.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”
– Psalm 139:23-24
Lord, please cast Your light of truth into my heart’s darkness and reveal to me any sin I need to confess. Please give me a heart of repentance to see myself as You do and then give me the grace to respond to Your merciful call to change. Please use Your Word to correct any wrong thinking I may have. Please control all the destructive power within me. Please do Your cleansing work in me, wash me with the water of Your Word, and make me a channel of blessing to someone today.

“Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows”
Matthew 10:31
I’m only a little sparrow,
A bird of low degree;
My life is of little value,
But the dear Lord cares for me.
I know there are many sparrows –
All over the world they are found;
But our Heavenly Father knoweth
When one of us falls to the ground.
Tho’ small, we are not forgotten;
Tho’ weak, we are never afraid;
For we know that the dear Lord keepeth
The life of the creatures He made.
I just fold my wings at nightfall,
Wherever I happen to be;
For the Father is always watching,
And no harm can happen to me.
I am only a little sparrow,
A bird of low degree;
But I know that the Father loves me;
Doest thou know His love for thee?
“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?”
Luke 12:6
No one sings His Eye is on the Sparrow like Ethel Waters! Whenever I think of this old song, I hear her voice. Even though I have heard wonderful soloists with their own rendition and I this is one of my favorite solos. When she sings this song at the Billy Graham Crusade in 1975, she sings from her heart. Cold, hardened, timid, fearful and arrogant hearts are softened as the Holy Spirit speaks through her. Souls turn to the Lord when they understand that He loves, He cares, He provides for a sinner like me.
“His eye is on the sparrow and I know He cares for me.”
“And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9
King James Version (KJV)
You may have noticed that I have been “recycling” some of my posts over the past few months. That is because I have had some distracting health issues. Nothing critical. Distracting. Migraines which cause blury vision, Vertigo from an inner-ear disorder called Menieres` which has plagued me since 1984 and “different” floaters in my left eye which caused some concern.
So I became discouraged. Okay, I will admit it. I was feeling sorry for myself because I wasn’t up to the challenge of writing, singing or teaching. So last week, I asked the Lord to help me write in a way that glorifies Him. The true question was of course, have I written anything that counts?
He answered in a way last night that took my breath away. I was reminded of Ephesians 3.
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
So what did He do that was so amazing? He brought to our attention that an article that I had written several years ago was published in the December issue of the CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) Magazine! (No, I don’t ride. My husband does. I have helped any way I could to help this ministry to bikers – that they may know of Christ’s love for them.)
After his CMA meeting with Riders for The Rock last night, John called and asked if I had submitted anything to CMA Heartbeat magazine? I honestly couldn’t remember anything. He said that someone mentioned it in the meeting. Someone said,”You never know when you might pick up a magazine and read an article written by someone you know – like Kathy Purdy.”
We searched through the Heartbeat magazines going back through the fall.
We found this in the December, 2016 issue. I wrote this several years ago after our first participation in the “Toy Run” for the local Children’s Homes. I never imagined it would ever be published. I am still amazed at The Lord’s timing. It is always perfect!
You see, our work for Him is never in vain. He remembers.

This was posted on facebook (in my “Memory” list and after reading it again, knew this is something that should be shared with my friends on the blog. I remember learing “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” at Bible camp around 1970 but didn’t know the story behind the song. It is amazing.
I have decided to follow Jesus” is a polarizing hymn. Made popular by the Billy Graham crusades, it is inseparable from the concept of altar calls and emotional pleading. For some, it stands as a …
